Miley Cyrus, performing as Miley, is a Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, musician and performer whose career has crossed pop, rock, country, alternative and dance music. Guitar has been an important part of her musical identity throughout her career, appearing across recordings, live performances and some of her most rock-oriented work.

In 2026, Miley began wearing custom Red Monkey guitar straps as part of the launch of Bass Persuades, with three one-off leather straps handmade in Los Angeles specifically for the project.

Red Monkey founder and designer Torry Pendergrass worked directly with Miley's longtime stylist Bradley Kenneth on the three custom straps, developing pieces around the project's guitars, wardrobe and visual direction.

Miley's Custom Red Monkey Guitar Straps

The project included three Red Monkey guitar straps designed specifically around Miley's visual direction, wardrobe and guitars. Rather than treating the strap as an afterthought, each piece was developed as part of the complete look.

One of the first pieces revealed was a white leather guitar strap with oversized tonal MILEY lettering running down the face. The monochromatic design coordinated with Miley's white visual look while remaining immediately recognizable as a one-off piece built specifically for her.

A second black Red Monkey leather guitar strap took the concept in a different direction. Handmade from Italian leather, it features oversized MILEY lettering created with Red Monkey's signature hand-set metal rivet work.

The rivets were positioned not only to form the lettering, but also to interact with production lighting, catching and reflecting light as Miley and the guitar move through the frame.

Built for the Bass Persuades Era

Bass Persuades introduced a new musical and visual chapter for Miley in 2026, accompanied by a darker cinematic aesthetic and a prominent role for the guitar.

In the project's visuals, Miley appears with guitar in hand and the custom Red Monkey straps clearly integrated into the styling. The result places the strap directly within the visual identity of the performance rather than treating it simply as functional hardware.

The materials, lettering, proportions and finishing details of the custom straps were developed to complement Miley's instruments, wardrobe and overall styling.

Miley and Guitar

Although Miley is widely known as a pop artist, guitar and rock music have been recurring elements of her musical identity for years.

Her recordings and live performances have repeatedly drawn from classic rock, country, alternative and guitar-driven music, while her career has included collaborations and performances connected to artists including Metallica, Billy Idol, Joan Jett and Stevie Nicks.

That range makes the guitar more than a visual prop. It is part of the way Miley communicates musically and visually, making a custom leather guitar strap a natural extension of the instrument and the overall performance.

Red Monkey has been building handmade leather guitar straps in Los Angeles since 1995, creating pieces for touring musicians and performers across rock, metal, country, pop and alternative music.

The Miley project reflects the same approach Red Monkey has taken with artists for more than three decades: work closely with the artist's creative team, understand the instrument and wardrobe, and then build something that functions as both professional equipment and part of the visual identity.

For Miley, that meant creating custom straps capable of holding their own inside a highly controlled visual world — pieces designed to look intentional whether seen in a close-up video shot, under production lighting or across a concert stage.

Three Custom Straps, One Visual Direction

Three custom Red Monkey guitar straps were created for Miley as part of the project.

Bradley Kenneth personally visited the Red Monkey studio in Los Angeles to see the finished pieces, approve them and pick them up for the shoot.

The result is a small collection of one-off straps built specifically around Miley's evolving visual identity — from the clean white monochromatic piece to the darker black Italian leather strap with hand-set rivet lettering.

Each carries the same underlying idea that has guided Red Monkey's artist work for decades: a guitar strap can be functional professional equipment and a piece of visual design at the same time.
