Shakira is a Colombian singer, songwriter, musician and global recording artist whose career has crossed Latin pop, rock, dance and international pop music. In addition to her unmistakable voice and stage presence, guitar has remained part of her musical identity throughout her career and live performances.

For Shakira's Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour, Red Monkey founder and designer Torry Pendergrass worked remotely with Shakira's stylist Nicolas Bru to create custom Red Monkey leather guitar straps and matching wireless pack covers specifically for her live performance setup.

Shakira's Custom Red Monkey Guitar Straps

The project went beyond simply supplying a guitar strap. The Red Monkey Custom Shop developed pieces intended to work as part of Shakira's complete stage presentation, coordinating the leather, hardware, proportions and overall look with her guitars, wardrobe and tour colorways.

Among the pieces created for the tour was a custom 2.5-inch-wide leather guitar strap. The wider profile provides the substantial stage presence of a classic rock guitar strap while distributing the instrument's weight across more of the player's shoulder.

Matching wireless pack covers were also created so the functional equipment required for a major touring production could visually integrate with the guitar straps and stage wardrobe rather than appearing as an afterthought.

Designed for the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour

Shakira launched the Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran World Tour following the release of her album of the same name. The production brings together music from across her career with a large-scale visual show, making the details of each performance look especially important.

For Red Monkey, the collaboration meant approaching the guitar straps as both professional touring equipment and part of the wardrobe. Each piece needed to function reliably onstage while complementing the visual direction developed for Shakira's performances.

That combination of function and stage identity has been central to Red Monkey's approach to making handcrafted leather guitar straps for professional musicians for more than three decades.
